Driver Causes Crash by Attempting to Elude Police During Traffic Stop in Glen Burnie, Multiple Serious Injuries Reported
A driver attempted to avoid police during a traffic stop in Glen Burnie, resulting in a crash with multiple serious injuries reported.
On February 16, 2020 at approximately 11:53 pm, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Volkswagen Beetle on Hidden Brook Drive. The Volkswagen refused to stop and continued onto Old Stage Road. The officer did not attempt to pursue and later located the vehicle which had crashed on Old Stage Road near Baylor Road.
The Volkswagen was traveling north on Old Stage Road. The driver lost control, and crossed the center of the roadway. The Volkswagen struck a Mazda Miata which was parked on the street. The Mazda struck a Nissan Altima which was parked in a driveway and then struck a Ford van which was also parked on the street.
The driver and one passenger were transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Two other passengers were transported with serious injuries.
Preliminarily, the primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver’s failure to remain in a single lane. Speed, drugs, and alcohol appear to have contributed to this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handling the crash investigation.
