Racial Slur Found Inside Historic Lula Scott Community Center in Shady Side

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is investigating the presence of a racial slur found inside the Lula G. Scott Community Center, a historic landmark in Shady Side.

On December 23, 2021, at approximately 11:30 am, officers responded to the community center located at 6243 Shady Side Road for a reported hate-bias incident. While checking the interior of the building, a maintenance worker observed a racial slur inside a maintenance closet. 

Authorities believe the placement of the slur is an isolated incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, details of what was observed by the employee were not released.
