Child Struck by Annapolis Transit Bus Near Madison Street in Eastport, Flown to Area Hospital

A child in Annapolis was flown to an area hospital after being struck by a city transit bus yesterday. 

In a press release, a city spokesperson said at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a 9-year-old female was struck by a City of Annapolis transit bus on Bay Ridge Avenue at Madison Street in Eastport. "The Red Route bus was traveling from Madison Street onto northbound Bay Ridge Avenue in front of the Eastport Shopping Center," the press release states. "The victim was airlifted to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

According to the press release, the preliminary investigation revealed the bus was at the intersection on Madison Street at Bay Ridge Avenue. After the light changed to green, the bus proceeded from Madison Street onto northbound Bay Ridge Avenue where the 9-year-old pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk, city officials said.  

The driver was reportedly placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, and the driver to undergo drug and alcohol testing, in accordance with city policy.  There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, according to the city.
