Jeffrey Simmons, 45, of Severna Park, Identified as Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Ritchie Highway

Jeffrey Scott Simmons, a 45 year old resident of Severna Park, was reportedly struck and killed last week while walking along Ritchie Highway, the Anne Arundel County Police Department's media relations office said. 

In a department issued press release, officials said on July 20, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., their officers responded for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, later identified as Simmons, in the 800 block of Ritchie Highway. "Preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian, who was wearing all dark, non-reflective clothing, was in the travel portion of southbound Ritchie Highway when he was struck by a 2012 Toyota sedan,"  the press release states.  "The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital by Anne Arundel County Fire Department and later pronounced deceased."

The driver was not injured, the police department said.  The cause and other details of the crash remain under investigation.
