Retired Annapolis Police Captain Dies While Hiking in Vermont
A retired Captain with the Annapolis Police Department reportedly died while hiking in Huntington, Vermont last week.
On October 5, 2023, at approximately 3:11pm, multiple agencies responded to Burrows Trail on Camel’s Hump, for an unresponsive male, Vermont State Police said in a statement. "The male was identified by his family members, who were present, as Mark Seidel. Life saving measures were performed but were unfortunately unsuccessful," officials said.
The agency said Captain Seidel's death appears to be a result of a medical emergency and is not considered suspicious. His remains were transported to the Vermont State Medical Examiner's office where an autopsy will be conducted in order to determine the official cause and manner of the death.
Captain Seidel, shown above in an Annapolis Police Facebook photo posted in 2017, reportedly joined the department in March of 1993. He was promoted to Captain in 2018 and retired in 2021. "Captain Seidel served the department with distinction during every stage of his career," said a police department spokesperson.
