Anne Arundel Police Charge Baltimore City Teen in Connection with Severn, Brooklyn Park Homicides

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has charged a Baltimore City teen in connection with homicides that recently occured in Severn and Brooklyn Park.

According to a statement, police department officials said that in June 2024, detectives assigned to the Homicide Unit were called to investigate two shooting deaths, one in Severn on June 14, 2024, and the other in Brooklyn Park on June 29, 2024.

On June 14, 2024, at approximately 7:19 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Meade Village Circle in Severn for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Keion McKinney (pictured in the top photo) of Severn, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds behind a building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicated the victim exited a townhome and was shot by a male suspect in the rear yard. The suspect subsequently fled the scene. The incident was determined to be targeted with no threat to the community.

An online fundraiser raised more than $9,000 to help cover funeral expenses incurred by Mr. McKinney's family and friends.

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Northern District officers responded to the intersection of Route 2 North and Orchard Avenue in Brooklyn Park for what was initially dispatched as a motor vehicle collision involving injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Joshua Ray Holland (pictured in the bottom photo) of Curtis Bay, MD, who was determined to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). The victim was transported to Shock Trauma and ultimately died from his injuries. Preliminary information from witnesses indicated a vehicle suddenly stopped at the intersection, and an adult male fell out of the driver's side front door. The vehicle then fled the area. Officers later located the vehicle in the area of Old Riverside Road near Arundel Road.

GunMemorial.Org created a page on their site in honor of Mr. Holland.

During the course of the investigations, detectives identified a suspect in both homicides. On September 10, 2024, 18-year-old Deondre Tywon Sharps of Baltimore was charged with the murders of Keion McKenney and Joshua Ray Holland. There is no known association between the victims and no connection between the two incidents apart from the suspect.  Sharps is currently incarcerated in Baltimore.
