Edgewater Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Yields Discovery of Guns, Police Say

An Edgewater man is facing criminal charges, after a traffic stop allegedly was linked to the discovery of multiple guns, according to the county police department.  

In a press release, department officials said that on October 2, 2024, detectives assigned to the Southern District conducted a traffic stop of a white 2016 Ford Fiesta in the area of Central Avenue and Muddy Creek Road in Edgewater.  "During the stop, detectives seized approximately 6.6 grams of suspected cocaine and 31 suspected Oxycodone tablets (approximately 3.2 grams). The driver, 27-year-old Benjamin William Monias of Edgewater, was arrested and charged," officials stated.  

According to police, the continuing investigation led to the execution of search warrants on October 3, 2024, at two residences. A search conducted at a home located in the 1600 block of Bay Ridge Road in Edgewater resulted in the seizure of the following:

Benjamin WMonias, who was found to be prohibited from possessing firearms, was further charged with multiple weapons violations related to the items seized at the Bay Ridge Road address. 

A second search warrant was executed at a residence in the 200 block of South River Clubhouse Road in Harwood in furtherance of this investigation.  The following items were seized as a result of the search:

Glenfield, Model 60, .22 caliber 
Glock, Model 21, .45 caliber
