Arrangements Released: Fallen Firefighter to be Laid to Rest Following Service in Pasadena

Funeral plans have been set for the Anne Arundel County firefighter who died while attending to a fire in Laurel. 

'The officers and members of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins who died in the line of duty on January 11, 2025 while operating on a house fire in Laurel," an official statement said. "MFF Higgins was part of a mutual aid response and was assigned to a unit from the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department, MCFRS Station 15," a statement said. "Higgins passed away on January 11, 2025, while bravely performing his duties in a house fire in Prince George’s County."

Investigators said that Higgins was throwing ladders to the house on Bradford Drive when he suffered a medical emergency, and was later pronounced dead at the White Oak Medical Center.

According to an online obituary, Lieutenant Christopher was a Master Firefighter for Montgomery County Fire and Resue Service and was a life member of Earleigh Heights VFC.

The schedule of services are as follows: 

Family and friends are invited to visit at the family owned and operated MCCULLY POLYNIAK & COLLINS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 3204 Mountain Road PASADENA on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Further visitation will be held in the Lighthouse Church 6691 Baymeadows Drive Glen Burnie Maryland on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for a special fire department service and all are welcomed. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Jane Frances Church 8499 Virginia Avenue on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 am. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
