Rockville Fire Fighter Loses Life While Engaging Laurel Home Blaze, Also Contributed as Volunteer Fire Fighter in Anne County
The Rockville fire fighter who died while responding to a Laurel home blaze yesterday was also a volunteer fire fighter in Anne Arundel County.
'The officers and members of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins who died in the line of duty on January 11, 2025 while operating on a house fire in Laurel," an official statement said. "MFF Higgins was part of a mutual aid response and was assigned to a unit from the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department, MCFRS Station 15," a statement said. "Higgins passed away on January 11, 2025, while bravely performing his duties in a house fire in Prince George’s County."
Investigators said that Higgins was throwing ladders to the house on Bradford Drive when he suffered a medical emergency, and was later pronounced dead at the White Oak Medical Center.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department issued the following statement:
It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share the untimely passing of Firefighter Christopher Higgins, a career Montgomery County Firefighter as well as a Volunteer Firefighter with Anne Arundel County, Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company in Severna Park. Chris made the ultimate sacrifice last night, January 11, 2025 while responding to a fire in Prince George’s County. Chris was working as the driver on Truck 715 in Montgomery County. We send our deepest condolences to Chris’s Family and friends, the Montgomery County Fire Department, and our own, Station 12 Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department. The loss of one of our own is deeply felt, and we ask the community to keep those close to Chris in their prayers during this difficult time. Further details regarding services will be forthcoming.
