Annapolis Woman Arrested in Connection with Minor Assault Investigation at Stevensville Daycare

An Annapolis woman was one of two suspects arrested in connection with a Stevensville daycare assault investigation.  

According to a statement released by the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, on February 20, 2025, detectives were made aware of a past incident of alleged mistreatment of a child at the Kiddie Academy of Kent Island, located at 113 St. Claire Place. This investigation led to the arrest of the Owner/ On-Site Director and an employee, authorities said in the statement. 
 
"Following a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that there was probable cause to charge and arrest the suspects. As a result, an employee, Wendy Jones, 57, of Easton, MD was charged with Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Neglect of a Minor," the statement said.  

"Additionally, Owner and On-Site Director, Dana Barnhart, 53 (pictured above), of Annapolis, was charged with Failure to Report Child Abuse."

Specific details of the alleged abuse were not included in the statement.
