Anne Arundel County Deputy Sheriff Charged Following Child Sex Abuse Investigation

The Anne Arundel County Police Department and Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of a Deputy Sheriff following an investigation into child sex abuse allegations. 

According to press releases issued by the respective offices, on March 3, 2025, the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office informed the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit of a reported child abuse case involving a Deputy Sheriff. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred in 2016.

Following an investigation, detectives from the Child and Vulnerable Abuse Unit applied for charges through the Anne Arundel County Court Commissioner on March 26, 2025. A warrant was subsequently issued, charging Anthony Nickoles, 42 years old, of Pasadena, Maryland, with sexual abuse of a minor, sexual offense in the 3rd degree, two counts of sexual offense in the 4th degree, and two counts of assault in the second degree. Detectives from the Child Abuse Unit took Mr. Nickoles into custody without incident in Annapolis on March 26, 2025.

According to court documents, the adult victim and the accused officer are related.  

Corporal Nickoles has served in Sheriff's Office for 19 years. He was suspended without pay immediately following his arrest. “The actions of one individual do not reflect the dedication and professionalism of the men and women who serve our community with honor,” said Sheriff Everett L. Sesker. “We hold our personnel to the highest standards and will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation.”

Officials say the allegations are unrelated to the deputy's position as a law enforcement officer. The Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Professional Compliance is actively cooperating with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
