Man Pleads Guilty to Murder of Rising Amateur Boxer in Odenton Townhome Community
State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess has announced that Nicholas Giroux (pictured on the left), 36, has pleaded guilty on to the First-Degree Murder and Felony Use of a Firearm in a Violent Crime in the death of his neighbor, Isaiah Oludayo Olugbemi (pictured on the right).
Sentencing is scheduled for April 22, 2025, in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis, where Giroux faces Life in Prison plus 20 years.
State's Attorney Leitess expressed her condolences for the loss of Mr. Olugbemi, stating, "Mr. Olugbemi was a rising talent in boxing with a bright future ahead. Not only that, but he was the father of a young child. The Defendant shot Mr. Olugbemi multiple times, at one point, returning to continue gunfire. This plea holds the Defendant accountable for this senseless crime and I hope that it brings some peace and justice to his family and friends."
On June 17, 2024, Anne Arundel County police responded to a shooting in the 500 block of Meadow Mist Way in Odenton, where they found Mr. Olugbemi suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Video surveillance and witness information led to the identification and arrest of Giroux, who confessed to the murder and led police to the murder weapon.
"Isaiah, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, was taken from us at the young age of 27 due to senseless violence," an online tribute states. "As a promising boxer, Isaiah was on the verge of turning professional, having recently achieved a national championship bringing him closer the achieving his dreams of stardom."
The online tribute says that Isaiah was fatally shot multiple times in front of his home, just a few feet away from his beloved two-year-old son and his parents.
