Suspect in Recent Clay Street Homicide Detained in Connection with Unrelated Warrants by DC Authorities

The man who has reportedly been sought following a recent homicide in Annapolis' Clay Street Community was detained in Washington DC on unrelated warrants.

According to the Annapolis Police Department, homicide detectives are actively investigating a homicide that occurred on the 100 block of Clay Street on March 19, 2025, at approximately 7:40 a.m. The deceased was identified as John Simms, Jr., 36, of Annapolis.

During the shooting, a juvenile was also shot and was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore with non-life threatening injuries.

Since the shooting, authorities have announced plans to arrest Roscoe Jerome Jones, of Oxon Hill, charging him with the murder of John Simms Jr and the assault of the juvenile victim.

On Monday, April 7, 2025, at approximately 10:33 a.m., The Metropolitan Police Department assisted the U.S. Marshals Service with taking the suspect, 31-year-old Roscoe Jones, into custody in the 1400 block of 1st Street.

The Annapolis Police Department released a statement saying that Jones was detained related to the Clay Street shooting. However, Report Annapolis News confirmed that the arrest was made in connection with two open warrants out of Prince George County.  An Annapolis Police Department spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment on the conflicting information.

The status of the warrants related to the recent shooting on Clay Street is unclear.
